Final Fantasy 14, Get Out of the Game with Emote-Based Workout Videos

I am a regular gym-goer, but deep down I am also a sweaty gamer. I work from home, and some days I don't stretch or exercise at all. Square Enix obviously knows everything I do on a daily basis. This is because they have released a totally bizarre exercise video consisting entirely of Final Fantasy 14 emoticons and action animations.

"Eorzean Aetherobics" is a four-minute fever dream, the brainchild of a community team." Why an exercise video!" you may wonder. The team's blog post states, "In the last few years, with so many people working from home or simply preferring to stay indoors, we thought it would be nice to have a simple, easy-to-follow stretch for short breaks at work or for long gaming sessions. 'There may be plenty of other exercise videos on the Internet, but we thought that using the movements and music from FF14 might be more motivating for the Warriors of Light.'

In the video, both in-game characters and actual humans demonstrate their movements, beginning with light stretches that incorporate unique animations of each race. It also incorporates traditions common in the "Final Fantasy 14" community, such as players often using emotes and abilities just before freezing in a fight with Shiva. Emotes like the "cheer wave," common in role-playing nightclubs, become warm-up stretches, and moves like blocking Susanoo's giant blade are repurposed into slight squats that also serve as arm stretches.

The blog post also includes several variations on the moves seen in the video-some make the exercise a little more approachable for all fitness levels, while others provide additional benefits after sitting at a computer all day. [You won't see fitness influencers dancing Jordan's or Manderville anytime soon, but I had a really good time fooling around with these moves in my office. I've performed the Bead Needs Dance in the real world many times, and this is not the first time I've brought a large amount of Final Fantasy 14 emotes into the real world.

It's always fun to see the creative ways people are repurposing facets of the game in ways I would never have thought of. If you've been playing Final Fantasy 14 as much as I have, I encourage you to give it a try before your next raid or dungeon.
