Silent Hill" studio: also working on Borderlands "interactive streaming series

GENVID Entertainment has announced that it is working on an interactive streaming series based on Silent Hill: the hit Gearbox shooter Borderlands announced that Borderlands EchoVision Live will follow the adventures of eight travelers on a Vault Hunter "adventure safari" who, to their great surprise, are marooned on the very hostile world of Eden-6.

The story begins as the "would-be vault hunters" embark on a three-week guided tour of the planet. Until they get stuck in the town of Greywater Junction. It was a place full of "thugs, bandits, and low-thread-count sheets." Their only hope of getting home was to band together to overcome their fears and failures and "dodge the many bullets with their names on them."

Of course, that possibility is not in their hands: it is entirely up to the audience to decide "how they will handle the pressure, how they will relate to each other, what kind of people each will be and what kind of future vault hunters they will become.

"Fans will have a direct and lasting impact on the story and characters of Borderlands: Echo Vision Live is an unfolding narrative experience in which the entire audience is involved in story decisions and experiences a shared ending," said Genvid.

The announcement does not reveal how the interaction will work, but it is reasonable to assume that it will be more or less the same as the system used in "Silent Hill": almost identical to that used in Ascension Stefan Bugaj, chief creative officer of Genvid, said earlier this month that "Ascension" viewers will watch each episode over the course of a day to a week and vote on what action the cast should take. This is essentially a slower, more organized version of Twitch Plays: a majority vote, but with time to ponder, debate, and organize a voting coalition.

"Borderlands" is, generally speaking, a lighter affair than "Silent Hill," so while there will be the odd death here and there, the voting for "Borderlands EchoVision" will not be as heavy-handed as "Ascension" At the very least, it will be a good time for the staff writer, Harvey. At the very least, there should be less concern about dealing with sensitive subject matter with a "deeply considered touch," as staff writer Harvey Randall recently put it. It's the Borderlands, and everything can be hammed up.

No release date for Borderlands EchoVision Live. No Silent Hill: Ascension also has no release date, but will be available later this year.
