Battle Bits Remastered, a look-alike of the explosively popular indie game "Battlefield," draws a line in the sand on the boomstick: no shotguns allowed.

First spotted by PCGamesN, one of the developers of BattleBit Remastered has stated that no shotguns will be added to the breakout FPS. Co-developer ThatLiquidHorse, when asked about the shotgun, a staple of the FPS, stated.

Okay, fair enough, but "why" do all FPS games and their dogs have shotguns? This seems to be a question that the BattleBit team faces fairly regularly, and as Prima Games reports, the main issue seems to be one of balance. The shotgun in the game has the ability to be either too powerful or underpowered," BattleBit Discord moderator TrueDevilâ„¢ told fans. As you said, balancing them is very difficult, so the devs decided not to add them."

That decision has the ring of a very unpleasant truth indeed: wielding a one-hit kill Winchester in OG's Modern Warfare 2 with a double-blade is either high ground or just annoying the enemy with a hot blast. In the "Destiny" era, "Felwinter's Lie a particularly ugly meta centered around the boomstick, which completely decimated PvP for a time.

A shotgun in a video game does not behave like a shotgun in real life. Shotguns are effective to a surprisingly long range compared to their digital brethren, but real-life rifles are also not pew-pew damage-limited plinkers like their video game counterparts. Video games are much more fun than reality, and it is fun that shotguns are high-risk, high-return, and can do more damage than large-caliber rifles.

Battle Bits are based on wide, open maps, but it is easy to imagine a small gremlin loading up with pump action and setting up camp in a building or other enclosed space for an easy kill. The battle bit team simply decided to eliminate that possibility, which is fair enough.

PCGN's claim that the shotgun is "the best weapon in an FPS game" is problematic; the best weapon in an FPS game is definitely the magnum or "Deagle."
