JK Simmons will reprise his role as Omniman in Mortal Kombat 1, and Robert Kirkman couldn't be more excited.

As IGN discovered, in an interview at San Diego Comic-Con last week, JK Simmons, the face of Spider-Man's J. Jonah Jameson, confirmed that he will reappear as Invincible's Omniman in the Mortal Kombat 1 DLC.

Skybound's Gina Darling spoke with Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead and Invincible, and Ed Boon, creative director at NetherRealm Studios and co-creator of Mortal Kombat Kirkman is taking a crossover approach. Kirkman was enthusiastic about the crossover, admitting: "I've been in touch with Ed Boon for years, ever since you guys started making the DLC characters.

For those who don't know: Invincible is a poignant take on superhero comics, somewhere between a critique and a genuine love letter, ultra-violent without being overly ironic about the genre itself. The protagonist Mark Grayson's father, Omniman, is a bonafide Superman-alike, an alien "Virtrum Man" capable of vanquishing anything in the galaxy.

"Invincible" will air as an Amazon Prime series in 2021, and Ed Boone confirmed that Omniman would be in it: "In the first episode, the last scene, I thought: in the first episode, the last scene, I thought: 'This is what I want to do.

Boone then casually broke the news that JK Simmons, who voiced Omniman in the series, would be back in the game: "And we got JK to do his voice.

This was later confirmed on Twitter by Dominic Cianciolo, director of story and narration at NetherRealm Studios: "It was a thrill and honor to direct JK Simmons as Omniman in #MortalKombat 1! It was.

According to Kirkman, there is a long history of inspirational feedback loops between "Mortal Kombat" and "Invincible," and he spoke further about that first episode:

"At the end (of the first episode) Omniman is the Grove's When we did the sequence where he exterminates the Guardians, that was trying to do the best Mortal Kombat feats: 'Everything's solid gold! I don't know what to say, I didn't get the memo! The team on this game is phenomenal."

He also acknowledged that fans owe much of his work to Mortal Kombat: "Mortal Kombat is in the DNA of what I've done."

Mortal Kombat 1 itself is scheduled for release in September. Omniman will be the first in a DLC roster that includes The Boys' Homelander, Suicide Squad's Peacemaker, and Kombat characters Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda.
