Starfield's Surprise Animated Series Features Combat Mechs; Fans Hope to See Them Playable in Games

With less than a month to go until the release of the sci-fi RPG epic Starfield, Bethesda Softworks has released "The Settled Systems - A Starfield Animated Anthology".

The video doesn't reveal much about what we can look forward to in the game, but with mechs appearing in the Where Hope is Built episode, fans of the Starfield subreddit can They are hoping that one day they will be able to do so. Todd Howard has previously said that there will be no land-based vehicles in the game, and that seems clear enough, but since the mech was also unveiled in the official gameplay trailer (the mech is shown at 1:06 but does not appear to be in use at the moment), it is hard to give up hope. Is the big robot really a vehicle?

Mech speculation (mech?) aside, these videos are really meant to set the scene: humble beginnings lead to great things. Of course, there's no guarantee that great things will happen: grandpa might just hand you the keys to his clunker and wish you luck, or you might have a mid-life crisis and quit your job to pursue your teenage dream of living on the open road. I suppose we all have to start somewhere.

Frankly, I don't think video is particularly good. I know that animation has a particular visual style, but all of these videos have choppy movement, none of them have any dialogue, and some of them look unfinished. Was the inker off that day?

I know Bethesda is not trying to make the "Starfield" equivalent of "Cyberpunk: Edge Runners" here (although the "The Hand That Feeds" episode may have been taken straight from that game), It seems to me that a game release of this magnitude deserves something a little more flashy and polished. If they're going to do it anyway, they should do it right.

Naturally, some fans are calling for Bethesda to animate Starfield in earnest. However, for now, here's what we have:

In the United Colonies' capital city of New Atlantis, a courier pilot named Kent aspires to live in the most desirable place in the colonized system, and after joining the UC Vanguard and working his way up to the capital's elite, Kent is soon on his way to becoming a starship pilot. Kent soon realizes that the off-planet adventure that awaits him is what he has truly longed for.

Vanna is an orphan from the city of Aquila during the famous Colonial War, eager to explore the stars. Her search for repair parts takes her all over the city and brings her closer to her dream as she faces unexpected dangers.

Two neon street rats, Ada and Harper, are partners in crime who make a living stealing from the wealthy partygoers who come to visit the "pleasure city." Ada, driven by a moral dilemma, soon catches the eye of the all-seeing Dragon God Industries and an exciting new opportunity presents itself. But at what cost?

Starfield is released September 6.
