"Armored Core 6" is a return to the type of game From Software hasn't made in a decade. It is a fast-paced, mission-based mech action game with laser cannons and tons of missiles flying around. It is much like the classic "Armored Core," with one exception. At a recent preview event, we played a build of the PC version and looked around at the graphics options, which included a 120 fps option, a first for a From Software game.
Overall, the PC settings for "Armored Core 6" are fairly standard, with a reasonable but not surprisingly large selection of dials to adjust. Basic options such as borderless window mode, switchable V-Sync, and various image quality settings are included. However, whereas all of From Software's previous PC games have been locked to 60 fps, "Armored Core 6" offers options for 30, 60, 90, and 120 fps.
Under the advanced image quality settings menu, there are a few options that I appreciated (and, naturally, quickly implemented), such as the ability to disable motion blur. It is unfortunate that there is no detail on what each setting does, and the tooltip that says Lighting Quality "sets the quality of the light effects" is of little use. Most settings have low/medium/high options, and some add a maximum value. Anti-aliasing has only low, high, and off.
Strange, but kind of nice, is the ability to add ray tracing. It would be nice to enjoy the metallic texture of the paint.
The 120fps option is the highlight here. Until now, the only way to exceed 60 fps in From Software games has been to use mods like this one for Sekiro. This is a welcome change, as this game runs much faster than Soul Games and Elden Ring. To dodge all the missiles, you need 60 frames to spare.
