Ubisoft has reportedly halted production on "Fenyx Rising," a sequel to the flawed "Immortals.

"Immortals Fenyx Rising" was so-so; Ubisoft's "Breath of the Wild"-like game didn't chart -- our "Immortals" review gave it an even 72% -- but a solid game with interesting moments and memorable characters. It was a solid game with interesting moments and memorable characters. That's because, according to a new report from the VGC, Ubisoft has quietly dropped production on a sequel.

According to anonymous developer sources told by both VGC and Kotaku, Ubisoft terminated the sequel to "Immortals Phoenix Rising" in the early stages of development.

Ubisoft has not exactly confirmed the initial reports, but has "reallocated some of the creative team and resources within Quebec Studio to other unannounced projects," and their skills and expertise will "help to accelerate the development of these important projects focused on our biggest brands. will play a role in accelerating the development of these important projects that focus on our biggest brands," a statement to VGC reads.

This does not bode well for Immortal's future. It would be a stretch to call the game Ubisoft's "biggest brand," and it makes sense that the company would want to take an all-out, sure-fire gamble for a higher-profile title. After all, Ubisoft has a thousand different "Assassin's Creed" projects, and a "Splinter Cell" remake would not be unannounced.

So, if you were hoping for something more BotW-like on the PC, unfortunately, you're going to have to drop the "Immortals" sequel from your shortlist. While the original is always available (plus the actual BotW and, if you want to emulate it, "Tears of the Kingdom"), it would be a shame if Ubisoft has truly abandoned something new, albeit imperfect, in favor of its "biggest brand."
