It's Globin' Time again! Destiny 2 players tricked AI sites with fake boss Glorbo.

Last week, World of Warcraft fans created a new character named Glorbo and posted it on the WoW subreddit. This had the effect of tricking the AI article generators that patrolled the subreddit into "thinking" the character was real and creating and posting articles about players who were "eager for the changes Glorbo would bring to the game."

It was all very funny and silly, and a clear demonstration of the inherent weakness of AI and the fallacy of over-reliance on automated systems. This is because Glorbo is back, this time as Destiny 2's secret boss.

Destiny 2's Glorbo disguise was nearly identical to WoW's presentation: a few days ago, redditor Rasputin_the_Warmind posted a thread titled "I would say the new Glorbo secret boss is the best content I have played in a while" posted, enthused about the enemy mechanics and called on Bungie to "add more secrets like this and the duck pond easter egg Quackenboss".

Others were quick to agree: some offered similar compliments, others complained about spoilers, others asked how to access Glorbo, and others piled on the ridiculous bullshit: Sam_Kablam expressed surprise that it took him this long to find Glorbo, He wrote, "Ever since I found the first secret boss, Glorbo, in 'Season of the Tokyo Drifter,' there have been ever-increasing hints that he has a brother."

It was an amazing and downright hilarious community effort, and at least one website quickly picked it all up and spit it out as a guide to finding Glorbo, along with a breathtaking quote from Rasputin_the_Warmind. The guide is very thorough, explaining that you need to find both elbows and the left thigh before you can begin your encounter with Summumah, and that you need to sink each trace in deepsight before you can gain the tier 3 buff in deepsight that you can use to get down to Glorbo's battlefield explains that.

I don't have a link because I don't want to reward such nonsense, but you can easily find it if you want to see for yourself - at least until it is demolished.

AI will probably be the death of us all, but I have to admit I may have fallen into that trap with the thread disguising the machine. For those who don't know, some of the explanations are really confusing and borrow elements from the game. There is even a real-life friction between Glorbo fans and Quackenbackers.

With its appearance in "WoW" and "Destiny 2," it is reasonable to assume that Glorbo's secret is now fully public knowledge and that this is unlikely to happen again. Personally, I would not make such a guess at all. Rather, my guess is that we will hear about Glorbo: we are about to hear that he will encounter his "nephew of terror" in the secret dungeon of Diablo 4, underground in the Arcane Sanctuary.
