Destiny 2 composer reveals that Paul McCartney's music is making a comeback.

Bungie composer Ella Feingold, who has been orchestrating "Destiny" since 2015, posted an image on Instagram of a score sheet with a notable name: P. McCartney (discovered by VGC). The title of the composition is withheld, but the orchestration is credited to Feingold and Jordan Cox, and to avoid suspicion, Feingold's caption reads, "Yes, that P. McCartney. That's all I can say at this point." [Paul McCartney is one of the most prolific and influential songwriters and performers of our time and is best known as the driving force behind The Beatles. He composed several tracks and motifs to shape the original soundtrack for Destiny's, and is credited on five of the eight songs on The Music of Destiny: Volume 1. McCartney is credited for five of the eight songs on "The Music of Destiny: Volume 1," as well as the entire OST. In particular, "Hope for the Future," written and performed by McCartney, was released as a single and is considered by some to be the theme of Destiny.

Unfortunately, Bungie and longtime composer Marty O'Donnell had a major falling out in 2014, the effects of which continue to this day, and O'Donnell's contribution to Destiny is in storage. O'Donnell wrote with McCartney for Destiny, and both are credited on many songs (more on that history here). Because of the feud between O'Donnell and Bungie, "Destiny" players would be forgiven for not knowing that the actual Beatles wrote for their game.

Well, partly. Hope to the Future appears as an Easter egg in Destiny 2's raid "The Last Wish". It has a secret code wall, which activates various effects.

Feingold's submission is of course open to various interpretations, but it seems unlikely that McCartney will return with a new song. Most likely, Bungie's audio team has decided to revisit McCartney's music. Perhaps the truth will be revealed in time for "The Final Shape," scheduled for early 2024 and touted by Bungie as the conclusion to its long-running "light and dark" saga.

Elsewhere in Destinyland, players are distracting themselves from the never-ending search for loot by having fun with bots; after the WoW community tricked an AI bot into posting an article about a made-up character named Glorbo, everyone's favorite space wizard took up the mantle and invented a secret boss with the same name. Yes, the bots fell for it.
