A few months ago, we mentioned the possibility of the perfect OLED monitor, and now it has been confirmed by a representative of boutique monitor startup Dough: a new generation of gaming monitors with 32-inch 4K OLED panels will arrive next summer.

In a post on Reddit, the Dough representative gave a complete roadmap of the company's expectations for OLED panels over the next 18 months or so. The first surprise disappointment is that Japanese panel maker JOLED's 32-inch 4K panel is at least delayed and likely to be canceled.

Although, admittedly, this is not a major issue for gaming.

In any case, what is still to come are 32-inch 4K OLED panels, primarily from Samsung and LG. Both operate at 240 Hz and use each company's panel technology. In other words, Samsung's QD-OLED is found in various panels, including Samsung's own new 49-inch G9 monster, while LG's WOLED alternative is found in the Corsair Xeneon 27QHD240.

Dough has no further insight into the details of these panels. As such, we do not know how they will fare in areas such as brightness compared to existing OLED monitors. However, the roadmap does give some indication as to timing. Samsung's QD-OLED version will appear in late summer and LG's WOLED version a few months later. The post also indicates that the new 32-inch 4K OLED monitors will cost around $1,000 to $1,500.

Other notable entries on the roadmap are LG's 34-inch and 39-inch WQHD panels, both coming in mid-2024. Samsung is already producing a 34-inch WQHD QD-OLED panel. In fact, it is used in the first true OLED gaming monitor, the Alienware 34 AW3423DW. Meanwhile, the new OLED roadmap also includes Samsung's 27-inch QHD panel, which LG has been offering for some time.

Notably missing from the roadmap is the 27-inch 4K OLED panel from TFT Central's roadmap update earlier this year; according to a Dough representative, the roadmap provided is based on what they consider the most exciting and that other OLED shapes and sizes will be coming soon.

There is also no indication of which panels Dough will use from the roadmap. However, since Dough is using LG for its first OLED gaming panel, a 27-inch model, it will probably use LG technology when it launches a 32-inch 4K model.

But there are some more interesting asides. First is the claim that LG will scale back production of LCD panels in favor of OLEDs.

"Currently, tier-one display manufacturers are exiting the LCD business and shifting resources to OLEDs. For example, Samsung is exiting the LCD business in 2022, and LG is following suit by drastically reducing its LCD models," the Reddit post stated.

As a result, LCD panel production will be in the hands of Chinese manufacturers like BOE.

There is also an interesting discussion regarding the price of mini-LED LCD monitors. Long story short, LCD monitors with mini-LED backlighting will not get any cheaper.
