Baldur'sGate3 Surpasses Apex Legends to Enter Steam's Top 10 Peak Games of All Time

According to SteamDB, on August 5, 2023, the launch weekend, "Baldur's Gate 3" had 712,281 concurrent players at one point, making it one of Steam's top 10 games of all time. This huge peak surpassed Goose Goose Duck to become the 9th most played, pushing Apex Legends' 624k peak to #11. The top 10 "you have to be this tall to get on it" hurdles were firmly anchored by the 700,000+ peak. [The free-to-play battle royale shooter can wipe the tears away with huge funding and current player counts.

Baldur's Gate 3 hit 500,000 players yesterday and nearly reached 600,000. Probably because not all of us can play all day on weekdays, and not all of us can take off work for the game's release date.

If you think this peak will be the last peak for "Baldur's Gate 3," you may be wrong. It was the weekend after launch weekend that the monster hit "The Elden Ring" hit its peak of 953,000 concurrent players.

Such word-of-mouth will be helped by the stories already being told by those who have played "Baldur's Gate 3"; D&D knick-knack and voice actor Matthew Mercer is building a box-shaped tower to bypass the wall. There is a lot of important lore about the pants of the Fogoton Realms. There are horny voice actors. There is a TOS that includes the mandates of the Eldritch Act.

It's clear that things are just getting started for this 20-year-old entry in one of the PC gaming world's most storied series, and Larian CEO Swen Vincke, perhaps one of the most successful independent developers in the world, says he has no intention of selling the company now. He certainly has his hopes high.
