A Reddit thread by user zerger45 asserts that Diablo 4 rats will lead you to legendary loot. Or maybe he is simply throwing his voice to the new rat cult and hopes that the rats will drop mega-rare loot in Diablo 4 as they pay their respects. Either way, I'm worried that we've started another cow-level dreamscape.
"It may sound really strange, but to get good loot you have to follow the rats. Do not follow a predetermined path in any dungeon. Rats smell like cheese! This is true. I found multiple legends in the space of about 10 minutes."
Co-conspirator LuxSolisPax comments: "I know most of us are joking, but following animals leads to [plant resources]. Chasing rats is not so silly in that context," they add, "there are other things. Every time I see an NPC crawling around at the beginning of a dungeon, screaming about how doomed the place is, a butcher spawns that I can't interact with."
Confirmation bias is already present in some players. User azanti wrote four times in a row, "I'm not going to log in and try it. So they logged in and tried. Obviously, they later posted screenshots of the pests' gains. Meanwhile, user letsmodspc just wants to see the world burn in rat fire: "Sounds like Looney Tunes so upvote."
Look: I'm not a superstitious person. I don't freak out when I walk under a ladder or break a mirror, and if I see a black cat cross my path, I want to be the first to pet it. I believe that the universe we live in is all a matter of chance and coincidence. There is no statistical evidence to support this rat theory, and I think this whole thing is some sort of low-level brain disorder that belongs to the SCP canon.
That said, when I get home today, the first thing I'm going to do is get on my druid and go after the rats. I really want to know. After all, they can play Doom, so who's to say they don't have inside information on Diablo?
