RPCS3 developers are developing a new PS4 emulator.

Exciting news, PC gamers: there's another way to enjoy Bloodborne on your PC. A new emulator project from the creators of the excellent PlayStation 3 emulator RPCS3 appeared on Github on Saturday. The target platform is the PlayStation 4, which is an exciting prospect since Sony's port for the PC will inevitably not cover the entire PlayStation 4 library. Nevertheless, it will likely be many years before emulators can legally play commercially available games, so for the time being, we'll probably be stuck with the enthusiasm for PS4-exclusive titles like "Bloodborne".

There are several reasons to temper expectations here, including the fact that RPCSX is not currently made for Windows." This is an experimental emulator for the PS4 written in C++ for Linux. It cannot run games yet. It is also unclear when this will be possible," the Github page states.

RPCS3 has been in development for 10 years, but 30% of the games in the PS3 library "cannot be completed, have serious glitches, or perform poorly" on the emulator; RPCSX is still in its infancy, so it may take more than a It could take a year or more. But there are reasons for optimism: RPCSX is being led by the programmers who launched RPCS3, and several other longtime RPCS3 contributors are also involved. the x86 architecture of the PS4 is essentially the same as a modern PC. the x86 architecture of the PS4 is essentially the same as a modern PC. It is the same, and even though there are some differences (e.g., memory is shared between the GPU and CPU), it should be much easier to translate than the PS3's notoriously complex Cell processor. [PS4 OS emulation, encryption, shaders, building the UI, and eventually Windows support ...... All of these things take time, and I wouldn't be shocked if Sony decides to remaster "Bloodborne" and release it on PC before RPCSX can be properly played. fpPS4, Orbital, Kyty, GPCS4, etc., working on PS4 emulation. This is actually not the first time a project has been done. However, RPCSX's developer pedigree could help the open source project attract more contributors in the coming months, and it could quickly rise to the top in terms of interest.

Another exciting aspect about RPCSX is its support for PS5. The two use essentially the same architecture, and in RPCSX's burgeoning Discord channel, developer DH says that's where the "X" in the name comes from.

"The PS5 has almost identical [firmware] and [hardware]," he writes.

"For a long time, it will be a PS4-only emulator. It seems like a good idea, but PS5 emulation is not our priority, we will not upload anything related to the PS5 thing soon ... It will be a PS4 only emulator for a long time"

.

I think there is a good chance that this will be a PS4 emulator that can run proper games, so it will be an exciting software to see in the future. Be careful not to confuse this with the scam software called PCSX4 that I wrote about a few years ago. That one is a complete fake, and it is unfortunate that the name is so similar!
