Anyone who has played Cyberpunk 2077 knows that the police system in that game is, well, a bit naff. In fact, while it has been improved since its release, the police AI in the game remains fairly rudimentary, and the immersion is easily broken by the ridiculous rozzer behavior.
Gamers know this, and so does CD Projekt Red. That's why a "complete overhaul" of the police system is planned for Phantom Liberty, the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion pack. Yes, it's great news, but it's not ideal for gamers who are currently playing the game, as "Phantom Liberty" is still a few months away. [He recently released the Immersive NCPD Hotline mod for Cyberpunk 2077 on NexusMods. This mod is notable in that it introduces a whole new way to interact with the Night City police, making them more manageable and more fun, albeit in a slightly cheating way.
Once installed, the mod allows V to bribe the NCPD to attack his enemies, pay them to cover up crimes, and protect himself from false accusation reports, all with the press of a few buttons on his phone. You can see how the first of these mechanisms works in the GIF below.
Of these three new features, there is one that really stands out to me. While the other two features are kind of cheat-code-y and sound fun, the third feature will genuinely make playing Cyberpunk 2077 a better experience.
"I see you accidentally knocked over the hot dog cart. No problem, I'll mobilize the entire NCPD SWAT team to brutally execute you." moment.
As you can see in the gif above, installing the Immersive NCPD Hotline mod is not a problem. Make a call, pay some cash, and then sit back and enjoy the enhanced police AI.
While it is obvious that this mod is inspired by Grand Theft Auto's phone-based cheat system, the fact that it makes Cyberpunk 2077 even better shows how the game's rudimentary and broken police system should have been inspired by this series should have taken inspiration from. [I mean, the police system in "GTA" is infinitely more sophisticated than in "Cyberpunk," with a decent wanted system and some basic stuff like cops not automatically coming up behind you when you do something illegal when no one is looking. Also, if you look at the series police system in "GTA V," the game was released in 2013, not 2020, as in cyberpunk.
This is one of the few police mods currently available for Cyberpunk 2077, with the rest available on the NexusMods website. There are many other add-ons that enhance the game, so it is worth checking out for Phantom Liberty if you are looking to upgrade your Night City experience.
