The 1,000-page history of Starfield was compiled by one superfan.

The Starfield subreddit has been a bit strange lately, with players assembling spaceships out of cutouts and desperately trying to find spoons in gameplay trailers.

A user named Gokamo has compiled a 1,000-page document about the game, titled An Attempted Complete Starfield Compendium, by Gokamo (God help me). While one might think that a novel's worth of information about an unpublished game is overkill, Gokamo has seriously delved into Starfield's development lore, dating back to the game's release in 2018.

This compendium is divided into several "arcs." The first arc alone covers the initial announcement five years ago, several leaks, a ship customization survey, the first episode of "Into the Starfield," and a Reddit Q&A from 2021. [Concept art, leaks, trailers, interviews and interviews, information on skills and story, basically everything is here. Why did they make this stuff, and Gokamo goes into their inspirations.

"When 'Oblivion' came out, my father gave me a Prima strategy book. When I finally made it out of the sewers and saw the view of the Aylean ruins across the lake with that peaceful music playing, I felt unreal. It was the first game where it felt like another world that really existed."

"I've finished every Bethesda game since 'Morrowind,' and every game has an underlying formula that makes it feel special to me. [I'm a space nerd, so Bethesda games in space seemed like an unrealistic dream.

"I remember perusing the pre-release information about Fallout 4 and making some terribly inaccurate predictions. With this game, we wanted to catalog how the community has felt on this journey."

"We wanted to make a game that would be a realistic dream.

This magnum opus did not fall into our lap from orbit; Gokamo has been working on it for at least a year, gradually adding pages until we have assembled a novel-sized archive handed to us.

It is an amazingly detailed source of information and a heartwarming reminder of the impact the game has on people's lives. It also makes me wish that "Starfield" was already out and that poor Gokamo could take a break from this editing process and fly off into space.
