Blizzard Announces Billion Damage Druid in "Diablo 4" is Unexpected and Will Change "Soon"

Diablo 4 is all about the build: how your classes, stats, skills, and equipment combine to kick the biggest demons in the least amount of time. Some builds are very powerful, others not so much. However, the build that streamer Moxsy calls "Lightning Shred Druid 2.0" does so much damage that it could be broken.

As IGN noted, Moxsy has been sharing his destructive journey on Twitter over the past few days. He came close to hitting 1 billion damage on July 7:

Not sure if that's actually the highest damage hit in Diablo 4 up to that point, but it's undeniably impressive.

However, just one day later, he hit the hapless hell minions for 1.8 billion damage, essentially doubling their haul.

Ouch, ouch: [This is not a bug or an exploit, it's a carefully crafted build that takes advantage of the legendary item aspect and "double dipping" to pile on more and more massive damage to the shred attack.

There are many intricacies to this build, which Moxsy details in his DPS Check build, but Tyler Colp, Diablo 4's in-house pro, explained it this way:

What he calls tl;dr is that this build "doubles the damage modifier and gives a constant, large critical hit that always triggers lightning damage in the area of effect."

"This build deals over 1,000% more critical damage to the enemy." And the more critical hits you get with Grizzly Rage, the more the critical damage multiplier adds up.

There is a certain random element to the whole thing, as some Diablo 4 dungeons are apparently better suited to stacking heavy damage than others. Also very important is that you have to kill everything at once in every place: Moxsy said that the damage spikes became serious after he started "snowballing" by one-shotting elites and hordes of enemies.

Of course, that's a problem when fighting powerful bosses like the Uber Lilith, since there are no hordes to feed on to accumulate damage stacks. But it is still achievable, as streamer echohack demonstrated. In fact, at one point they were able to unleash a 2.1 billion damage shot on Uber Lilith, completely smoking the game's toughest foe in just 90 seconds.

Unlike the Lightning Shred Druid, which accumulates damage through relentless high-speed killing, Echo Hack's "Shred Poison Druid" relies on accumulating massive poison damage and delivering huge critical hits. In other words, it has the opposite problem, being great for one-on-one fisticuffs with large heavies, but not very effective in regular dungeons.

"When bouncing between enemies, [the poison aspect] is not activated," Moxsy analyzed echohack's build."

"The only way to actually trigger this aspect is to poison the enemy, then walk quite a distance away from him and then dash.

"Poison damage is not very good for ad clearing in most cases, as it cannot be stacked. Against tanky bosses, however, they can stack really strongly.

As absolutely bonkers as these numbers are, they may actually be just the beginning: Moxsy said he believes that under the right circumstances, players should be able to do over 100 billion single attacks of damage.

"Honestly, I think this is on the low side. I haven't found a Lethal Shrine (which adds a critical damage bonus to lightning strikes), nor have all the stars aligned at the same time, but I think it's possible to break the integer limit."

I don't have the patience to play video games this way, but I can't criticize too much those who do: after all, I built my Eldenring character specifically to be able to instantly kill my enemies rather than give them a fair fight. At some point, however, you have to wonder if "Diablo 4" is a little broken, or at least some parts of it need a serious nerf.

Sure enough, in a statement sent to PC Gamer, Blizzard confirmed that such outrageous damage numbers should not happen.

"This behavior is unintentional. The team is considering changing it in the near future to improve balance."

Personally, I believe that if you can build it, you should be able to lock it, but it's really not surprising that Blizzard wants to keep druids a little less: but it's really not surprising that Blizzard wants to keep druids a little less But it's not really surprising that Blizzard wants to cut back a bit on the druids. Big numbers are fun, but it is fair to say that this is a bit out of hand. No specific timetable for possible changes was provided, but I expect some adjustments to be made fairly soon.
