Frankly, I don't consider "Vampire Survivors" to be a resource-intensive game, as it consists of lightly animated sprites walking around a 2D plane. As the rounds drag on, the sprites pile up and the weapon effects become more and more vivacious. In this context, it is good news that "Vampire Survivors" has finally decided to migrate to Unity, almost a year after its announcement.
The transition to the new engine, which will take place on August 17 and is already in use on mobile and Xbox, has been "thoroughly tested and promises to run better than the old engine," Poncle said The Unity version has been actually accessible as a beta on Steam for years and and the majority of feedback from those who have tried it has been overwhelmingly positive.
"The new engine is great," wrote Reddit user Zealousideal-Try4666, who tried the beta version of the new technology several months ago.
"The game runs flawlessly, flawlessly, even with hundreds of levels of limit breaks.
Another user, Oddworld19, says the new engine has taken him from "5-8 frames" on Steam Deck to "around 60 FPS locked".
"Played a few hours this way. It seems to work perfectly, and since "Vampire Survivors" is otherwise known as an excellent Steam Deck game, my guess is that the "5-8 frames" was at the tail end of the round, with countless enemies and effects on the screen consuming resources!Of course, the game was played without a single frame.
Not infallible, of course; a player named louisrocks40 managed to slow the game to a crawl by playing as "Sammy with +50 amount, +500% duration, -256% cooldown," but still "the UI still responds to opening menus, much faster than the original client."
This is not to say that there were no problems. Some users reported bugs during the engine's beta access period, and one or two users reported reduced performance compared to the original engine. However, I hope all of that has been resolved prior to the August 17 launch date, and from what I have read myself, there were far, far more positive comments about the switch than negative ones.
