At least now that you can get a high-resolution 1440p at such an affordable price, you'll have a hard time choosing 1080p. Well, the obvious problem is that the MSI Optix G271CQP uses VA panel technology instead of IPS panel technology.

In the past, VA panels tended to suffer from poor pixel response. However, that is no longer true. This monitor is rated at 1 ms response time, albeit MPRT rather than GtG; MSI does not provide a GtG response figure, which is a bit more reflective of actual usage. However, most 1ms MPRT panels are rated at 2ms GtG, which is pretty decent.

Another issue on paper is the 250-nit brightness. However, these nits tend to work a little harder thanks to VA panel technology, which offers 3,000:1 contrast, or about three times the contrast of a typical IPS panel. It's also worth remembering that flashy OLED screens with LG WOLED technology hope to achieve 250 nits at full screen.

No, the real problem with this screen, if any, is the fact that the Acer Nitro XV272U is only $10 more expensive and you can get a 400 nits IPS panel. So this is really about your choice and what you pay for. At the very least, the price could jump if it is during the Prime Day sale.

If you want better contrast and black levels, plus a very slight increase in refresh rate, this MSI panel is a good choice. If you want better brightness and perhaps slightly better pixel responsiveness, the Acer is only $10 more, and we would expect it to return to this price.

Either way, you get far more pixels, accuracy, and image detail than a 1080p panel at a surprisingly reasonable price.
