Respawn Entertainment has posted several job ads for positions related to the new "Star Wars Jedi" series, following on from the well-received "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor". The current openings are for a principal game writer, a senior VFX artist, and an audio engineer, all of which are listed as positions specifically for "Star Wars Jedi."
The job description gives no real details about the game other than that Respawn will "provide players with a great Star Wars experience in a fun third-person action adventure setting." The listing of the audio engineer's participation on the "Jedi team using Unreal Engine 5" and subsequent numerous references to the software confirm that the game was produced using Unreal Engine 5.
"A third game in the successful Star Wars series" is of course not the most shocking news in the world, and Respawn's Stig Asmussen said as much just before Jedi: Survivor's release. Stig Asmussen said as much just before the release of Jedi: Survivor. In other words, there are a lot of proprietary engine transformations for the current Jedi, some of which will need to be reworked in order to make it work with the new engine.
Asmussen continued, "I always wanted to see this as a trilogy ...... how we could take Cal and the crew to a new place beyond what we were doing in the first game." we had a pretty decent idea of the time frame we wanted Survivor to happen, what the stakes would be, what the tone of the game would be, what Cal was going up against was going to happen, and how the crew was going to engage in it. And then there are ideas of what could be done beyond that."
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor had a short delay before release and launched rather badly on PC: Respawn has since released several patches targeting performance issues, but the PC version has a Metacritic score of 78 well below the low 80s of the console version.
In addition to the Jedi series, Respawn is also working on a Star Wars FPS (led by "Medal of Honor" co-creator Peter Hirschman), and dozens of roles have been recruited for that FPS and "Apex Legends". Clearly, Lucasfilm Games likes the sharpness of Respawn's jibe, and a Star Wars strategy game is also in early development over there.
