Update: A Blizzard representative said, "The team is investigating these reports, but we do not have any specific details to share at this time."
Original Story A nasty bug upon entering the cellar is ruining Diablo 4's high-level Helltide event for some players.
After finishing a long campaign in Diablo 4, parts of the map are periodically taken over by Helltide events for a limited amount of time. In this blood-stained part of the map, tough monsters appear and drop aberrant cinders that can be used to open treasure chests of rare items.
Usually the only way to lose a cinder is to die (lose half) or forget to use it before the event ends. However, several players on the official forums and Reddit are now reporting that entering a cellar in Helltide can inexplicably lose all Cinderellas.
Helltide is one of the best ways to craft powerful items and gather materials to find unique gear that defines a build; it takes 175 Cinders to open a treasure chest in Helltide, and only a handful can be obtained from enemies, so a large Losing a pile of Cinders can ruin all the effort you put into the event.
Reddit user the_plumbus_among_us posted a clip of entering a cellar with 302 Cinders in his pocket and coming out with 0. When he re-entered the cellar, nothing happened, and other reports do not seem to indicate if it was a specific cellar or not. Some players say they have not encountered the bug, but I would avoid entering the cellar for the Helltide event until Blizzard fixes it.
One commenter says that you don't lose the cinders if you use the emote wheel to exit the cellar, but in the clip from the_plumbus_among_us, you lose them as soon as you enter the cellar. But in the clip from _plumbus_among_us, you lose it as soon as you enter. If you accidentally entered and still have it, give it a try.
When contacted about the bug, a Blizzard representative said, "The team is investigating these reports, but we don't have anything specific to share at this time."
Since the launch of the action RPG, sellers have been rather horrible for loot and XP. Now that valuable currency can be stolen, perhaps Blizzard will take another look at cellars before Season 1 drops next week.
