Disaster averted, justice served for unjustly underrated hardware of the decade: Microsoft has fixed an issue in Windows 11 that affected compatibility with the Zune MP3 player, as The Verge noticed on its latest Windows blog, The new Insider Preview build of Windows 11 includes an update specifically for the long-dead iPod competitor.
Microsoft has fixed an issue that "was causing some challenges when installing the original Zune drivers on Windows 11," the blog says.
The Zune recently appeared in the Marvel film "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" as a replacement for Star-Lord's beloved Walkman. In May, Microsoft released a video explaining the rather arcane process of making the Zune work well with Windows 2023.
The Zune community on Reddit has responded well to the news.
"Holy crap," wrote Redditor Aggravating-Bake3522.
Redditor _killer_elite_ was even more excited: "Can't wait! I'm going to update my Zune HD artist profile!!!!"
.
The Windows blog notes that the update is currently available in the "Canary" channel of Windows 11 (the least stable and most experimental branch), but will "eventually be available to all Windows 11 users via the Insider channel."
It notes.
