WoW's new speciality is to buff everyone to do damage. So naturally, the group booted me out because of my "low DPS".

Last week's patch 10.1.5 brought Augmentation Evoker to World of Warcraft, bringing a whole new type of DPS to the game. For the uninitiated, this new spec works by buffing party members and increasing their damage numbers, rather than melting their faces themselves. Similar to the dancer in Final Fantasy 14 or the bard in Dungeons & Dragons.

So obviously, they are being kicked out of the group for no reason; a World of Warcraft subreddit thread posted a screenshot of the Wyrmrest Temple discord. Type "!augdps" in the augmentation channel and Carlygos, the server's friendly bot, drops an ever-evolving montage of people who are off the mark:

WoWhead has learned that the currently popular damage meter add-on for Evoker confirms that it does not properly track contributions to the group; Blizzard's mission statement says that they are not designing the game around themselves, but the combination of WoW's numbers-obsessed community and new, experimental specialties is a recipe for disaster! .

However, these DPS meters track the increased damage of Augmentation Evoker's party, so if you get scolded for "low damage," it could be due to DPS with much higher numbers than other DPS. In other words, if you are being yelled at for "low damage," it could be due to that DPS having higher numbers than normal.

This is despite the fact that the specialization is really good, according to the community. Reddit user TempAcct20005 writes, "One side of the [World of Warcraft community] is kicking [Augmentation Evokers] around, but the high end of [the community] is reserving a group spot for them."

"When I used the [item level 420] Devastation Evoker in the first dungeon after the patch, it was paired with the [item level 421] Augmentation Evoker. In that dungeon I did something that violated the Geneva Convention," user WorthPlease added.

Its power increases the larger the group. Buffing the other two DPS can help immensely. Buff an entire raid, and its impact will skyrocket. Hopefully the community as a whole will get smarter about how this new class works, but given the reactions we've seen, I'm not holding my breath. I did a bit of Mythic+ on Dragonflight with Random for a while, and let me tell you, some people are just looking for excuses.
