One day in 2018, the head of PC Gamer confronted operatives from Merryweather Security, a major security contractor and PMC for GTA Online. It didn't go well: one of the elite crew members described the situation as "fucking hot" while under heavy minigun fire, and shortly thereafter, everything went completely south and a disgraceful L was taken.

Years later, it's time for payback. The next free update, "San Andreas Mercenaries," will give players the opportunity to join the "Los Santos Angels." The Los Santos Angels are a new group of "elite pilots and ex-military" led by mechanic and ace pilot Charlie Reed, who is trying to revolt against Merryweather's rule by taking on "lucrative jobs" (crime).

The update will allow players to convert their Mammoth Avenger tilt-wing aircraft into an "enhanced aerial command center" with a new operations terminal and weapon upgrades.

New opportunities to cause trouble and make money include stealing data from server farms, dropping bombs on high-value targets, transporting contraband, and "spontaneous opportunities to liberate cash and goods from lucrative patrol targets." [In addition to the main mercenary action, "San Andreas Mercenaries" will add new random events, time trials, and an all-new tactical SMG that is "perfect for shooting while driving." Quality of life will also be improved: "San Andreas Mercenaries" will be available on June 13. More details on the update will be revealed as the release gets closer.
