In "Baldur's Gate 3," we finally got a peek into the city itself.

Ahead of Baldur's Gate 3's 1.0 release at the end of August, Larian is revealing more looks outside of the game's first act, and in the latest trailer released by Baldur's Gate 3 at Summer Game Fest, one of the RPG's iconic cities, Baldur' s Gate itself is finally depicted in Larian's interpretation.

We'll get to the beloved stage and screen star Jason Isaacs later, but first up is "Sorcerous Sundries," and my biggest question about Larian's follow-up to the BioWare classic was how the studio would bring the city to life. The shot of the magic pharmacy's stained-glass dome lit by the morning light, faithfully reproducing the original background art pre-rendered by BioWare, made me grin. Earlier in the trailer, a building that looked a lot like the harbor master's building was also shown.

These landmarks feel like old friends to me, and the presence (or at least homage) of secondary locations like the port office confirms the love and attention to detail on Larian's part, making me more excited than ever to return to this city. I've always wanted the same feeling I had when I saw Kea Mochen in The Witcher 3, a fortress from 2007's The Witcher lovingly recreated brick by brick in a shiny new graphics engine. Also, Divinity: can't wait to immerse myself in the side quests at this place.

As for Jason Isaacs, he's been one of my favorite character actors since he played Soviet Marshal Zhukov in 2017's "Death of Stalin" and his VO performance in "The Last Worker" was a real highlight of that game for me. Isaacs plays a political enemy who, with the help of the Clockwork Golem Legion, seems to be the darkest of the political enemies at Baldur's Gate. His slimy charm and world-weariness reminded me not only of Hugh Grant's character in the D&D movie, but also of Sarevok's political gamesmanship in the original game. This city never seems to learn." One also wonders if Larian has a celebrity VO ready to rival Isaacs and the previously announced J.K. Simmons.

Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keighley also said that according to Larian boss Swen Vincke, BG3 is still on track for an August 31 release, so it won't be long before we return to the house that Balduran built It won't take long.
