I was already pretty excited about Remnant 2, but after seeing the new trailer (below) from Summer Game Fest, my intention to form a co-op squad was solidified once again. And developer Gunfire Games announced today that "Remnant 2" will be released at the end of July.
See that giant purple vine guy at the end? That's the boss. (The previous title, "Remnant: Remnant: From the Ashes), also sent players into a strange dimension, but part of that strangeness depended on the unexpected colors of the leaves and water. It works, and we return to such places in "Remnant 2," but it's nice to be able to go further afield. Like outer space?
Wherever it is, there are robots. I often find robots to be boring adversaries, but this one looks quite unique.
There's a lot more to call out here: a boss that looks like Sentinel from The Matrix, a chubby mosquito-looking guy, and my favorite, the purple guy. I don't want to see any more trailers so I can't hide my surprise, but if you want to know more, the story trailer that was released yesterday is just an introduction to the world. It's also worth checking out the archetype trailer to get an idea of what kind of game it is, and there is a nine-minute gameplay video.
The first Remnant had its quirks and flaws, but it was quietly great, so hopefully Remnant 2 will live up to expectations I got a chance to sample a bit of the game at GDC and liked what I played, but I'm not sure if I'll like it as much as I thought I did. If it's anything like "Remnant: From Beyond the Ashes," it will live up to expectations: if it's anything like "Remnant: From the Ashes," it will be best played cooperatively with a friend.
On PC, Remnant 2 will be released on July 25 on Steam and the Epic Games Store; it will also be available on PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S.
On the Xbox 360, Remnant 2 will be released on July 25 on Steam.
