Activision Removes Nick Merckx's Call of Duty Skin for Anti-LGBTQ+ Tweet

Activision has removed the Nick Marks skin from Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone following the streamer's anti-LGBTQ+ comments earlier this week.

On June 7, retired Halo pro and MLG executive Chris Puckett tweeted a video of an attack on LGBTQ+ protesters outside a Glendale, CA school board meeting.

"This happened 4 blocks from my Overwatch League apartment," Puckett tweeted.

"Americans are in a sad place right now. Let them love who they love and live their lives."

Nick Murchis responded, "They should leave the little kids alone. That's the real problem."

As Dexerto pointed out, the tweets immediately sparked a backlash." Who are they and what horrible acts are people afraid of?" Puckett responded. I think the goal of most 'them' is to reduce child suicide. This is done through acceptance and removing the stigma of feeling/different."

Others responded similarly:

In a stream the day after making this statement, Nickmercs denied having anti-LGBTQ+ beliefs and said he did not mean to upset anyone.

Earlier today, Call of Duty site CharlieIntel reported that Nickmercs' skins were removed from the Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone stores without notice or comment. Activision later confirmed that the skins were removed because of Nickmercs' tweets.

"Due to recent events, we have removed the Nickmercs Operator bundle from the Modern Warfare II and Warzone stores," the official Call of Duty account tweeted in reply to Charlie Intell.

"We are focused on celebrating PRIDE with our employees and community.

Nickmercs has yet to officially comment on the removal of the Call of Duty skin; we have reached out to Nickmercs for comment and will update if we hear back.
