Sorry to the other Diablo 4 classes, but Sorcerers are fan favorites.

Less than a week after the full release of Diablo 4, the sorcerer leads as the most popular class.

Perhaps it's the giant fire serpents coiling around groups of enemies or the bliss of teleporting in and out of the battlefield. The Sorcerer is one of the OG classes in Diablo 4 and can be traced back to Diablo 1 in 1996.

This element-bending spellcaster has one of the most creative skill trees in Blizzard's new action RPG. In their most effective builds, they are adept at all schools of magic, and with the enchantment slot system, they can also gain passive benefits from equipping spells. If you want a class that lights up your screen with fire, lightning, and ice, the Sorcerer is the perfect class.

When it comes to the most brutal dungeons and open worlds of Diablo 4, the Sorcerer lags a bit behind the other four classes. The Barbarian and Druid struggle in the early game, lacking the damage output of the melee classes and the positioning advantages of the ranged classes, but eventually evolve into the most destructive classes in the late-game grind. Sorcerers, however, lose utility and power as they approach the level 100 cap.

In the Diablo 4 open beta earlier this year, the Sorcerer was the most played class along with the Necromancer. However, the open beta took place a week after the closed beta where necromancers were not playable, which certainly skewed the numbers. And with their undead minions nerfed in the final game, the appeal of playing Goth spellcasters seems to have disappeared.

Now everyone plays Sorcerer. Take two steps down Kyobashad and you will run into a man named Gandalf with a legendary robe and a glowing staff. Meanwhile, I, the Necromancer, am dressed like I've just stormed the only Hot Topic in Hell with a horde of rotting skeletons in tow. Necromancers are tasteful wizards, born to thrive in a world of viscera and bones. One of their spells dissolves their entire bodies into a cloud of blood-red mist. Can a sorcerer do such a thing?
