Sam Lake answers the biggest question in "Alan Wake 2": what happened to his layers?

Tragedy befell Alan Wake. When "Alan Wake 2" began, the horror writer had been missing for 13 years. Alan Wake is a talented horror novelist, and I think the first one ended with him writing himself out of reality to suppress the Dark Places: references to Stephen King, shadows with flashlights, and Alan Wake's attire.

That man can layer. Tweed jacket, hoodie, hoodie under hoodie, and perhaps a shirt under that. The combination was erudition, ruggedness, and casual friendliness, all opposites in one package. But somehow, after 13 years in the Dark Place, Alan Wake has reemerged with a completely different style. If you're thinking #NotMyAlanWake, you're not off the mark.

Not even an extra vest to wear? Not even a suit jacket with an impenetrable hood" How did Wake wake up with a dramatically different view of personal style?

I only had about 15 minutes to interview Sam Lake, creative director of Remedy Entertainment, about "Alan Wake 2". Before I could finish my questions, he had the answers.

"This psycho-horror story has created a layer in his mind that he can experience through this story," Lake said.9]

Game director Kyle Lowry, who couldn't help but reveal the core theme of "Alan Wake 2," said, "One year [in the Dark Place]. For every year he was trapped [in the Dark Place], he took off one piece of clothing at a time."

"He was a very good player.

"And another layer was added to his head," said Lake, adding the final conductor flourish.

I believe I can now exclusively and definitively report that Alan Wake is still the most layered man in video game history after 13 years. The layers have just shifted.
