I caught another glimpse of Lords of the Fallen at the PC Gaming Show and it looks like the Bloodborne sequel I've been dreaming of.

Whereas the original Lords of the Fallen followed in the footsteps of Dark Souls, this new 2023 reboot seems to be walking behind the flapping cloak of Bloodborne The latest trailer, released at the PC Gaming Show, shows off the polished Soulborne game is shown off. It certainly caught my attention.

Gaming journalists get a lot of flack for calling it "the next Dark Souls." Still, to be honest, if someone showed me this trailer by itself and told me it was a sequel to "Bloodborne," the new Bluepoint Games remake of "Demon's Souls," I would believe it.

Confusingly, Lords of the Fallen is a sequel to 2014's Lords of the Fallen (now called Lords of the Fallen 2014 on Steam). While the original game proved to have the skeleton of Soulsborne well in place, its world and storytelling did not reach the heights of From Software's game. Also, as Tyler noted in his review, several serious bugs in the PC version let the game down.

With the 2023 reboot scheduled for release on October 13, developer HexWorks seems to have addressed this criticism, and from the new trailer, Lords of the Fallen appears to have tight combat and a gothic horror-infused worldview. The team has stayed with Lords of the Fallen's dark fantasy setting, but with an increased sense of gloom. The atmosphere could be cut with a knife just after frantically slashing at the grotesque limb-wielding, shabby monsters that come at you. After all, just listen to those heavy, creaking footsteps as the player walks through a canyon full of corpses.

This new gameplay trailer shows off the heavy combat and gruesome bosses alongside the ultra-stylish trailer featuring the music of Iron Maiden that was released earlier this year. The monsters are especially fun, as they come over the player character with their creepy, skeletal egg-like screams.
