I went from knowing relatively little about "Starfield," from its surprisingly good-looking combat to its surprisingly awful romance choices, to suddenly knowing arguably too much. But while Bethesda thoroughly explains the various systems and ideas behind its latest RPG, a little more information has leaked out of its space suit via the game's Steam listing.

If you've been struggling with PC storage management over the past year or two, you might want to look away now, as Starfield is eating up 125GB of your SSD, the equivalent of the Red Giant's data volume. Surprisingly, this is not the largest game we've seen recently, with Jedi Survivor requiring a whopping 155GB of storage. However, it still falls firmly in the +100GB game category, which is becoming the standard for PC game blockbusters.

Potential Starfield users should also take note of the words "SSD required" at the bottom of the list. If you're still dabbling with drives that require moving parts, it's time to throw that out the window and get a small data brick. One caveat: Steam's system specs are sometimes wonky, so don't panic just yet; I've contacted Bethesda and will update if I hear back.

Aside from the meaty girth, Starfield's system requirements are otherwise reasonable. The minimum requirements are an Intel Core i7 6800K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 5700. For optimal performance, I need an Intel i5 10600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X and a Radeon RX 6800 XT or Nvidia RTX 2080. This is my current rig built in 2019. Thus, on paper, Starfield shouldn't be too overloaded, but that's no guarantee that it will run well, as we've seen with numerous games recently.

Another point worth noting is that Starfield requires a broadband Internet connection, which not all games listed on Steam do. This implies that it is required to be online at all times, which is a bit silly for a single player game, but not confirmed. In any case, the full list of specs can be read at:
