General
TerraTech Worlds is a sandbox vehicle-building game beautifully recreated in Unreal 5.

"TerraTech Worlds" combines resource extraction in the open world of "Satisfactory" with vehicle construction in "Space Engineers." In the new trailer, players work together to mine elements, construct buildings, and then turn to glorious violence to destroy AI-controlled vehicles.

The original TerraTech launched in 2017, but this new Unreal Engine 5 iteration is more than a visual refinement. Unveiled at this year's PC Gaming Show, it is a reimagined game with added features that transform the gameplay.

The colorful planets and the vehicles that whiz by them look like the work of legendary sci-fi artist John Harris, with the machines' gritty lines cutting through the heavenly lighting. TerraTech Worlds, however, is styled like a LEGO, with primary colors and tiny pieces that fly off when destroyed. This is an appropriate point, since the game doesn't have players attacking each other. [Creative Director Russ Clarke said, "This game is built from the ground up for an organic PvE experience (and cross-play support) that embraces cooperative and solo play and even switches between the two. Meanwhile, the explosive growth of the open-world survival craft genre supports the same message we've heard from our players."

Believe it or not, in the original Terratech, the community didn't want to beat each other up. In this game, however, curiosity is piqued by the unusual alien planet setting; the TerraTech Worlds trailer showcases sand dunes, oases, tundra, and kaleidoscopic forests. In each environment, players can collect unique blocks and resources, as well as alien technology.

In addition, base construction is essential to protect oneself from the dangers of these planets, but blocks can have different functions depending on the surrounding environment. This makes them tough to capture and opportunistic bandits who are out to get their prey.

Unreal Engine 5 also allows for a greater impact on the world because of its ability to use "fully deformable terrain and dynamic water." Thus, a hole in the side of a lake can drain all the water, and according to Clarke, the game's "ultra-high performance simulation engine manages millions of entities, all memory-resident, with no loading or streaming whatsoever. Payload appears to have mounted its powerful physics engine next to a construction sandbox.

Like the original TerraTech, the game will undergo an alpha playtest before launch. After the alpha is complete, the team will report on progress before launching TerraTech Worlds Early Access. Interested parties can sign up for the newsletter and follow the social channels to participate in the playtest.
