Dough's New Glossy OLED Gaming Monitor Aims to "Reduce Reflections by 70%" on Screen

I've been looking forward to checking out this shiny OLED gaming monitor for a while. Good news: the flashy new Dough Black Spectrum monitors will finally hit store shelves next month.

The Spectrum Black is a 27-inch 1440p glass OLED gaming monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms response time, featuring two HDMI 2.1 ports, DisplayPort, and a USB Type-C port with 100W power supply.

One feature that makes this monitor stand out from other popular 1440p OLEDs recently acquired is that the OLED panel comes with a cover glass, which Dough claims "improves ambient contrast ratio by 40%" and "reduces reflection by 70%." According to Dough, the "Black" in Spectrum Black is meant to showcase the "perfect contrast offered by an OLED panel with cover glass."

This makes the Spectrum Black a good choice for those constantly battling glare in the gaming space.

In short, the bonus of a glossy panel, in addition to the benefits already available with OLED displays, such as low response times, deep blacks, and great image quality, make this display a real formidable one. That's why we are already in love with the Alienware 34 and the Philips Evnia. For this reason, it's getting harder and harder to recommend non-glossy OLED gaming monitors.

All of this is packed between ultra-thin bezels similar to the design of the Eve Spectrum 4K we checked out a few years ago. It's understated for a gaming monitor, with no RGB, oversized logos, or funny-shaped stands. [We'll see if there are any brightness issues like we saw in our review of the LG UltraGear 27GR95WE. According to the spec sheet, the peak brightness is 1000 cd/m2, but we won't know this until we see it in person.

The Dough Spectrum Black will be available in July for $1099. However, if you pre-order by June 15 on the Dough website, you can get the monitor with built-in VESA mount for $899 (plus $99 for the stand).

The $699 pre-order price (plus $99 for the stand) includes a lower-priced version with a matte-coated OLED panel instead of glass, but rest assured that the matte-coated Spectrum Black has the same specifications.
