Well, well, well. It seems that "Cyberpunk 2077" is finally in full swing.
When the game was released in 2020, it was completely baffling that you could not change your appearance after creating your character. The reason, it was discovered shortly after launch, was that the game was not yet complete, and CD Projekt had to wait until the massive 1.5 update in 2022 to add the ability to change appearance to Cyberpunk 2077.
And in September, Phantom Liberty, an expansion to Cyberpunk 2077, will allow players to change their appearance on the fly thanks to some interesting new cyberware. At the Xbox Games Showcase Extended today, Quest Director Paweł Sasko gave a little introduction to Dogtown, the expansion's new location, and mentioned the new cyberware available on the black market.
"Things like air dash, the ability to see enemies through walls, and the ability to change your appearance to beat the heat," Sasko said. [Especially if you could combine an air dash with "enhanced ankles" or "enhanced tendons" that would allow you to double jump, you might not have to touch the ground anymore. Seeing enemies through walls also seems to have been a part of Cyberpunk 2077 from the very beginning.
And you can change your appearance, not when you're standing in front of a mirror or sitting in a ripper-dock chair, kind of like getting a new paint job while being chased by fuzz in GTA. But instead of a car, it's your body!
We don't know how this cyberware would work - Sasco didn't say, nor was it shown in the video - but it would be like a hologram projected on your face, or body, or clothes, rather than a machine that literally reconfigures your appearance. That would be quite painful.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will be available on September 25 for $30. Morgan experienced a demo at Not-E3 this weekend, and you can read his story about saving the president and becoming best friends with Idris Elba.
