Obsidian Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Big Discounts on Some of the Best RPGs of All Time

On June 12, Obsidian Entertainment, the RPG specialist formed by the developers of Black Isle Studio, celebrated its 20th anniversary. To celebrate, Obsidian is unveiling its next big project, Avowed, which started out as a take-off on a Skyrim-style RPG and has since evolved into something that is more about depth than breadth, and co-founder Feargus Urquhart believes this is "where Obsidian really shines," according to Mr. Urquhart. Fans of the company's games will probably agree, and if you're not already a fan, here's your chance to get in on Obsidian's generosity.

The studio is discounting almost every title it sells on Steam, with older titles in particular being a bargain. Let's start with the absolute jewel in the crown, Fallout: New Vegas. It is probably the best 3D Fallout in existence, and it's no surprise since many of the people who created this game worked on Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 back in the day at Black Isle. I can't speak highly enough of this game, and you've probably already played it, but if you haven't, it means you can get a chilling masterpiece for pennies on the dollar at 75% off ($2.49 / £2.24).

Then there's Knights of the Old Republic 2, one of the best Star Wars RPGs of all time, for the same price at 75% off. South Park: The Stick of Truth is a fan favorite from the show, and surprisingly for a title from this studio, it has a deeply satisfying turn-based combat system built around gross-out humor and easy-to-understand gags.

Pillars of Eternity is ..... . 92% on PC Gamer. It's also a whopping 75% off, so you can get it for $7.49 / £5.74, and the equally excellent sequel has the same discount. Choice Madness' excellent Tyranny is also 75% off, and as you can see, all of these games are as good a deal as you're likely to see in this vale of tears.

Recent titles are slightly less discounted, but still quite expensive. The superb "Outer Worlds" is 34% off at $19.79/£16.49, while the "Spacer's Choice" edition is the same discount but from a much higher price. Good news for those who like to be traumatized by giant spiders. The difficult and unforgettable "Pentiment" is 33% off ($13.39 / £10.04).

Most PC Gamer readers have played Obsidian's games, and this is your chance to get a top-class RPG at a bargain price. Of course, as with any game from this studio, the choice is always yours. Either way, here's to "Fallout: New Vegas" for an experience that makes me smile every time I remember it, and to 20 more years of games like this one.
