Round8 Studio's Lies of P demo has reached one million downloads. This indicates a surprising level of interest in the game, which at first seemed a bit of a crackpot, and having played the demo myself, the studio has not made any significant modifications to From Software's formula. However, they have made excellent use of the lack of a port of "Bloodborne" for the PC. This barrier has prevented me from playing this Lovecraftian death grinder until today.
Lies of P takes place in Krat and puts you in the position of an Elizabethan construct (a doll) with long curly hair and dainty appearance that looks like it was pulled straight from the pages of Twilight fanfiction. A petrifying disease has struck the inhabitants of Krat, the guard puppets are on the rampage, and it's up to you and the mechanized crickets to get to the bottom of it.
As far as the demo goes, the game is faithful to the real thing, with an ambitious amount of internal ingenuity that is threadbare. It runs well and flaunts a surprising amount of gameplay time for a preview.
You can mix and match weapon wielders and business ends to tweak their stats, and one tweak (the ability to rake in the last healing item after dealing enough damage) made me wish it were a staple of the genre. "Lies of P" is a bit like "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice" DNA, with an emphasis on passing off chains of attacks rather than frantic dodge rolls.
Similar to Wo Long: As with Fallen Dynasty's distribution on Game Pass, it has helped to expose many people to a game that would otherwise be considered a copycat product. The widespread acceptance of the demo turned many skeptics, including myself, into delighted and surprised fans of a Burton-esque mirror dimension game with puppets and robot clowns. "Lies of P" will be available on Game Pass from day one. It's all speculation, but given the game's imminent release, it's unlikely to be anything more than a mechanized softboy with a new outfit.
You can download a demo of "Lies of P" now through June 27.
