Amouranth Booed by Twitch Kick Takes Second Streaming Star in Less Than Two Days

Kaitlyn "Amouranth" Siragusa, one of Twitch's most well-known streamers, has begun streaming on Twitch rival Kick, although Siragusa announced the transition on her Twitter account last Sunday, This came two days after fellow streamer xQc announced that she had signed a $100 million non-exclusive deal with Kick to begin streaming on Kick.

The announcement video she posted on Twitter shows Siragusa reading a New York Times report about xQc's absolutely incredible deal, then calling her agent and getting herself a contract. On her personal Twitter page, Siragusa revealed what she perceives as Twitch's main "sin," undermining her own business and infuriating streamers like her and xQc.

"Twitch's 'sin' is not that they are trying to squeeze creators. Their sin is that they are creating a business model that will not succeed except on the scale of YouTube," Siragusa wrote. She continued that instead of figuring out how to tie Twitch to Amazon's burgeoning business, "Twitch has decided to exploit streamers even though it cannot achieve profitability that way."

"Either grow [Total Addressable Market] or create a better business model/monetization engine," Siragusa implored Twitch.

"If all of Twitch's recent actions are a sacrificial lamb to delay the removal of prime subs, ...... I echo the opinion that this is not the case. Enjoy the following.

Unlike xQc's agreement, the exact terms of Siragusa's agreement with Kick have not yet been made public. It is also unclear if, like xQc, streaming on platforms other than Kick is permitted.

We have contacted Siragusa about the terms of their contract with Kick and will update this article if we hear back.

What we do know, however, is that Kick's revenue sharing is much more generous to streamers than Twitch's 50/50 (sometimes 70/30) cut; Siragusa will take home 95% of what she earns on Kick's streams, but this distribution is presumably in the hopes that she and other streamers will make up for Kick's smaller audience (as a rough comparison, Amouranth has 6.4 million followers on Twitch, compared to Kick's 65,000 followers).

Questions remain about Kick's long-term viability and the ethics surrounding it. Co-founded by crypto-casino tycoon Ed Craven, who serves as Kick's CEO, it has been running more and more gambling streams, even after Twitch restricted gambling streams. Still, with a 95-5 ratio and a far more forgiving attitude toward streamers, it's no wonder that many of Twitch's biggest stars are willing to give it a shot.
