A breakthrough has been made in the search for cattle levels in Diablo 4, with players competing to perform secret purification rituals for the cattle gods.

According to Blizzard, the cow level in Diablo 4 is not real, but a group of players has discovered the existence of a ritual they believe will lead them to a legendary level that should not exist, and the evidence is compelling. The problem is actually performing the ritual, which may be impossible if the level really does not exist.

The cow-themed joke level became synonymous with the Diablo series after persistent rumors of its existence in the first game (which never existed). Since then, Blizzard has snuck cow levels into Diablo 2, Diablo 3, and World of Warcraft.

According to Diablo general manager Rod Ferguson in an interview with Kinda Funny, Diablo 4 does not have cow levels due to its serious tone. However, players have found strange items and locations in the game's files, suggesting that Ferguson's comments are not entirely true.

It all hinges on a fountain surrounded by bull statues at the Ked Bardu location in Diablo 4. Clicking on one of them brings up a message about purifying offerings to the "bull gods". And now the player searches for the items needed for the ritual.

D4 - Not Finding A Cow Level The Discord server has compiled a list of items that players have found through data mining so far, with channel names such as "secretcellar" and "all-cow-locations." The list includes "metal pieces," "bloody wood pieces," and "musty books." Both the bloody piece of wood and the Musty Tome are named after items that provide access to the cattle level in Diablo 2: Wirt's Leg and the Tome of Town Portal.

No one has found these three ritual items in the game yet, but text found in the file suggests that they drop from unique world events that may appear in different areas of the map. Other data-mined information suggests that the items can be purified at the fountain and a secret key can be picked up. The key can open a secret storage area, which has a portal to the elusive cattle level.

Despite the vague outline of the unmarked cow level quest, players have yet to find the world event described in the file. World events occur throughout Diablo 4's open world map, making it difficult to narrow down where to look for them.

"At the moment we are concentrating on Hawezar or Kehjistan to receive the first relic, but if we know what the event is, the other two zones (Dry Steppes, Scosglen, Fractured Peaks) are also likely to drop relic 2 and 3 It is well known that," wrote Chef, one of the server's administrators.

"I would mainly point out that this is not a very efficient way to find out which events should be run, but a very efficient way to see which events are going to be cut down for nothing.

Elsewhere on the server, players have raised the possibility that the data-mined information may well not yet exist in the game, but that doesn't seem to stop everyone from continuing their search.
