EA's Heretic-style magic FPS "Immortals of Aveum" postponed.

Immortals of Aveum is part of a niche tradition of linear FPSs from a major publisher (in this case, EA). The magic instead of the rifles is the key, and those longing for a Heretic revival may find comfort in Immortals of Aveum's war wizard theme. That's because the scheduled July 20 release date has been pushed back just a bit to August 22.

"We're going to take a few extra weeks to bring our full vision to life. 'This will give us time to further refine the game, complete optimization across all platforms, and deliver a strong launch. We owe it to ourselves and to all of you to do this right. [There is still extra time left to enjoy other PC games coming out in July, including "Remnant 2," "Exoprimal," and a port of the former PS5 exclusive "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart." As far as I know, none of these games will feature double-jumping battle mages. Alternatively, one could return to "Ghostwire Tokyo. Ghostwire Tokyo does its best to make first-person magic playable in a pleasing way, and thanks to a major patch in March, it's apparently even better these days.

Tyler played Immortals of Aveum last month, and the overall atmosphere is old-fashioned in both good and bad ways. If Boomer Shooter sought nostalgia for unrealistically fast first-person shooters in the era between Doom and Duke Nukem 3D, Immortals definitely looks like one of the first games to mine the quirks of the Xbox 360/PS3 era. Tyler himself noted this in his preview.

Ascendant Studios also mentioned that more information about Immortals of Aveum will be released in the coming weeks.
