BioWare's Best RPGs and Arkane's Best Immersive Sims Free This Month on Prime Gaming

Another month, another reminder that your Amazon Prime subscription is still in there somewhere.

This month we have Neverwinter Nights: a remastered version of BioWare's "Baldur's Gate" series, but it never quite reaches the heights of the previous isometric games. Nevertheless, the game has a heap of excellent modules and expansions, and people are still making mods for it.

But frankly, I'm not here to talk about Neverwinter Nights; I want to talk about the games Amazon has added to its free games of the month: Prey (the Arkane one), Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition, Shovel Knight Showdown, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. These were added to celebrate Prime Day like an ancient pagan festival, and will be rolled out over the next few weeks. The full schedule is as follows:

So get your "Prey" now. I'm not kidding; 2017's "Prey" is Arkane at the height of his powers. It's a sprawling, immersive sim set on a large, desolate space station that gives you all kinds of unique tools and powers to take on the many enemies out there. It's not perfect, but the room for creative problem solving is unrivaled. Besides, I realized after writing all this that it's basically "System Shock 3". How could I pass up the chance to play "System Shock 3"?

"Baldur's Gate 2" is, well, "Baldur's Gate 2." Voted the best RPG of all time for a reason, and that reason is its sheer depth, breadth, and quality; Baldur's Gate 2 has so many elements, most of which demand play. Starting on level 7, right after the events of the previous game, you're in for a high-fantasy adventure that will have you flying around on airplanes from the start. It is probably BioWare's best ever, and since it is so old, it will run on anything with a processor.

I haven't played "Shovel Knight Showdown" or "Force Unleashed," but the former has a 91% "very favorable" rating on Steam, and the latter lets you use the Force to pull Stardestroyers out of the sky.

Prey and Neverwinter Nights are available now with DRM-free GOG codes, while all other games are available via the Amazon gaming app.
