Amazon recently dropped the price of the best cheap SSD you can buy right now to $51. If you're still holding off on buying a HDD (and we know you're out there), now might be the best time to give your PC the upgrade it deserves.
We're sure you're tired of hearing this by now, but games are getting bigger and bigger. If you're going to be playing "Starfield" in a few months, you'll need an SSD at a minimum, and now is the time to pull the trigger on a 1TB drive to handle an installation as large as 125GB.
The WD Black SN770 is generally quite affordable, usually around $65 to $70. However, over the past few weeks, we have noticed that many NVMe SSDs, including some of the best SSDs for gaming, have dropped in price significantly. [In our review of the SN770 last year, we praised its performance, despite the fact that it is a DRAM-less SSD drive. This drive is a great entry-level PCIe 4.0 drive, with read speeds of 5,150 MB/sec and write speeds of 4,900 MB/sec. One of the only problems with this drive is that it can get a bit hot, and you should be aware of this if your only M.2 slot is under a powerful graphics card.
If you need a little more capacity, Amazon sells a 2TB version of the SN770 for $110.
You might see a really cheap 512GB SDD, but given the low price of a 1TB drive, it is best to avoid them, especially if you want to store a significant portion of your Steam library. These days, 1TB should be the absolute smallest size when it comes to SSDs.
