Metal Gear Solid 4 Finally Freed from PlayStation 3 Jail

It's a big day for stealth fans. Konami has revealed the full contents of Metal Gear Solid: The Master Collection, and lo and behold, it includes the non-canon game that series creator Hideo Kojima hates. But at the same time, Konami inadvertently leaked extra information in an update to the game's official website: and PC players will finally be returning to Shadow Moses.

Twitter user Nitroid (thanks to IGN) first discovered that the official site has a "Metal Gear Solid" timeline page (necessary since the game jumps around in chronological order), which lists the games included in the Master Collection Volume 1 If you look closely at the elements of the page, you'll see placeholder buttons for "Metal Gear Solid 4", "Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes", "Metal Gear Solid V", and "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker ' placeholder buttons, and PC Gamer confirms this accuracy.

It certainly looks like the Master Collection Vol. 2 lineup, plus a few bonus titles (probably the PSP Portable Ops and Acid spin-offs, but Kojima Productions also makes a variety of mobile games, and Game Boy Color titles have some great ones as well) is to be expected. The big, huge, absolute megaton of news, though, is that "Metal Gear Solid 4" will finally be released from its shackles.

This is a testament to the era when Sony told everyone it was going to be the best looking and best exclusive title on the planet, and it was produced with a huge amount of money invested.MGS4 is breathtakingly beautiful with octocamo-like visual effects and is full of amazing sequences. The second half of the film feels rushed, the cutscenes are too pointless, and the on-rails sequences are a bit too much, but for me, the landing point is not set in stone. Some would argue, however, that this film is the highlight of the entire series.

While this news has yet to be officially confirmed by Konami, it is truly groundbreaking and justifies the Master Collection's existence on its own. The Metal Gear Solid series is the best and most important epic in gaming history, and each game is rich in imagination, humor, and an increasingly complex view of geopolitics and history. It always felt strange to have one of its most important works sealed away on an old console (cough "Bloodborne"), and I suspect that whenever it is released, it will blow away many people who have never had the chance to play it.

As for other games, "Ground Zeroes" is an excellent prequel to "V" and a must-have. Director Hideo Kojima originally intended this to be the fifth in the series, but Konami seems to have gotten cold feet, and the story is about Big Boss raising his own army in Costa Rica and manufacturing mecha in the process (why not?). The fact that it is a mobile game speaks for itself, but it is still a great experience and is the core of the film narratively.

Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol. 1 was released on October 24 and includes Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (first on PC) , Metal Gear (both MSX and NES versions), Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, and Snake's Revenge will be included. Also included are numerous bonus materials and soundtracks for each game.
