Somehow Blizzard has added the sickest grenade in video games to Overwatch 2.
The latest season of the hero shooter has a space opera-themed Battle Pass (opens in new tab) that includes an intergalactic smuggler skin for Ash. Initially thought to be a cute skin, Blizzard gave this feisty cowgirl red hair, wrapped her outfit in tentacled aliens, and made her butler robot B.O.B. a big alien. Her fluffy brown vest is a bit Firefly-esque, but it works.
Or so I thought until Reddit user pogstream (opens in new tab) ruined the Intergalactic Smuggler skin.
Overwatch 2 allows you to expand and rotate your hero's gear. In Ash's case, she can expand her rifle, coach gun, B.O.B., and dynamite. Her guns range from western to sci-fi. But, as Pogstream points out, her dynamite can get ugly.
At first glance, it looks like a regular pack of dynamite with three tentacles wrapped vertically around the dynamite and a fuse coming out of the top. If I could stop it here, I would, but it would be much, much worse.
The dynamite is damp. When you wiggle the dynamite with the mouse, the sound is like stirring a large pot of macaroni and cheese. The wet sound is so intense that one can barely hear the sound of the ignited fuse. The ash is now a hard counter to players with misophonia.
I don't have it yet, as it is a very deep skin in the season 4 battle path, but according to this video (opens in new tab), the wet sound is hard to hear in the actual game, and whoever did this was probably waiting for someone to find it in the menu. When it explodes, the distinctive sound effect doesn't sound, and I don't know whether to be disappointed or relieved.
If you're interested in this, the Intergalactic Smuggler skin is in tier 50 (of 80) of the Overwatch 2 season 4 paid Battle Pass track. If you're a normal person, I suggest you keep the Ash beach skin on. The dynamite of this skin is the pack of water balloons (opens in a new tab) and there is nothing like attacking your ears. You're welcome.
