By default, the new support heroes in Overwatch 2 have one of the most complex control schemes in the game.
Lifeweavers must drop a flower stand, destroy it, dash out of danger, pull allies, and switch to a secondary weapon to deal damage while heeling. Misuse of even one of these abilities and you will be killed quite easily compared to other supports with much higher survivability.
Immediately after his release last week, players found him a chore to play. Within an hour of his release, a popular Reddit thread, "Lifeweaver's controls are a*s (opens in new tab)," received 190 comments discussing how to fix it.
Just hours later, Reddit user SammyIsSeiso (opens in new tab) prepared a custom entire game and video to show the keybindings the community wanted, and it circulated enough to get Blizzard's attention (opens in new tab).
According to a tweet from game director Aaron Keller (opens in new tab), all changes to the popular video will be implemented next week. 'This will be the new default, with the option to use the old style.'
Here's how Lifeweaver keybindings will change:
Lifeweaver's Healing Blossom and Thorn Volley changes will probably save your life as you will no longer have to switch between them with keys on your keyboard Some players took the Petal platform off the right click to switch weapons, but still had to left click to shoot. With the new controls, tapping the right click will switch guns with one click and start shooting.
Like Hanzo's leap, double tapping the space bar activates the Life Weaver's dash. Lifelong jumpers may have a hard time avoiding accidentally using it, but it eliminates the need to use the shift key for the petal platform, so you don't have to cancel it with another key.
Other than the obvious accessibility issues with Lifeweaver's original controls, I never understood why he did not follow the same logic as some of the existing heroes. Initially Blizzard implied that he wanted players to only occasionally switch to Thorn Volley because it was the least important part of his kit, but underestimated that many people want to squeeze as much damage out of it as possible. I think he underestimated it. Support players, including Mercy players, know how important it is to pull the gun when being hounded by a tank or DPS. Good support play is about doing damage when there is nothing else to do.
Keller said that while using Healing Blossom, Lifeweaver will slightly nerf the speed at which Thorn Volley auto-reloads to compensate for the faster switch to Thorn Volley. Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson also said on Twitter (opens in new tab) that other balance changes to Lifeweaver will be announced later this week.
Overwatch 2 Season 4 launched last week with a space opera-themed Battle Pass (opens in new tab) and a community-made map much like Quake. It also came with a ridiculous Life Weaver bug (opens in new tab) that sends teammates flying across the map.
