Age of Empires 2 Finally Releases All-Timer Patch Notes, Stops Monks from Dying When Dropped Hiding in Relics

Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition, released in 2019, is a faithful remaster of the 1999 Age of Empires 2: to the extent that it shares many of the beloved bugs and flaws of the original game. But it was only after last year's convention that a long-dormant bug was discovered: in the wonderfully named "Walhalla," the player monk goes to return a relic to the monastery, and in the process collapses and dies.

Well, that doesn't sound very divine. What is happening here is essentially a rounding error, although it is explained very well in the video below. A monk with a relic and a monk without a relic are actually two different units, and when a monk picks up or drops a relic, the game switches and the unit's hit points are recalculated.

For those who want to know the math, it is explained in detail here (opens in a new tab), but in the end, the game switches the 1/55HP unit, recalculates 1HP as 0.999999HP, rounds it down to 0/55HP, and your monk is their s creator, which means that they are going to meet their creator.

Thus, the latest Age of Empires 2 patch notes (open in new tab) state:

"The HP of the monks is now 0.99999999 HP, rounded down to 0/55HP.

"Aztec monks with 1/55 HP no longer die when picking up or placing relics.

Surprisingly, this is not the only fix for amusing/annoying behavior related to monks in Age of Empires 2, as the monk relic bug is almost its own category. There are other fixes for monk relics:

I love the idea of monks hiding in their relics from an army of confused infantry.

OK, what caught my eye in this patch is the crap. But it should be said that this is one of the biggest balancing patches given to the game, with general and specific changes to units, reworking of other units, and the addition of new technology among dozens of changes aimed at preparing for the as yet undetailed expansion "Return of Rome" It should be said. In addition, they have even added the option to have a "small tree" in the game. This was one of the most popular mods in the game because of the increased clarity when maneuvering. While we can have a good laugh about the bugs, we are amazed at how complete Age of Empires 2 is."
