Sonic, forgive me for repeatedly rubbishing your game. Because you sure do make some cool LEGO sets.
Yes, this blue blur has teamed up with Lego to create four new sets that will be available this August. The LEGO brick brand is releasing the Green Hill Zone set (opens in new tab) in 2021. Actually, there will be another Green Hill Zone set released in this new batch, and if you ask me, this new rendition is pretty cool. The "Loop Challenge" set comes with, as the name implies, a loop and other parts to build a course. You can hook Sonic on a hamster to a spring catapult and launch him across the kit and straight into a messed up Dr. Eggman
.
This is my favorite, and likely the favorite of many others, but the cool contraption comes at a price: the most expensive of the four, at $99.99/£94.99. But it comes with quite a few character figures: Sonic is freed from the hamster ball room, Dr. Eggman is dragged out of the mech. Several creatures are also included, including Flicky, Pokey, and Budnick's Chopper.
The other three sets are a little kinder to the old bank account. Amy's Animal Rescue Island is an adorable set with a sand castle, waterfall, and a Tails figure accompanying Amy, with an optional small trap for the included Badonic Chopper. The "Tails Workshop and Tornado Plane" includes Sonic's sidekick and his iconic plane, while "Sonic's Speed Sphere Challenge" is a condensed version of the expensive loop course. Sonic's Speed Sphere Challenge is also a condensed version of the more expensive loop course, in which Sonic is once again trapped in a spherical prison, but with a smaller selection of pieces to make him jump down and over.
Each of these sets has a much smaller number of bricks, thanks to the larger set pieces and more interactive play. Prices and piece counts for each set are as follows:
