Diablo 4" will feature an "apex boss" that will be the character's final test.

The endgame of "Diablo 4" certainly seems to be an MMO daily in disguise (opens in new tab), but don't worry: Blizzard says its latest action RPG isn't designed to plague your entire real life. After all, that's what "World of Warcraft" is all about.

In a group interview (opens in new tab) cited by our colleagues at GamesRadar, Associate Game Director Joe Piepiora said that Diablo 4 is "not meant to be played forever," and that once you hit level 100 you will face While there are challenges, he said, "this is content that pushes you to test how far you can evolve your build, rather than trying to reach endless rewards as time goes on beyond level 100."

Ultimately, players would finish the campaign, unlock the capstone dungeon, finish the capstone dungeon, unlock the difficulty setting for the next world tier, and then unlock the difficulty setting for the world tier after that, and then spend more glyphs to spend more glyphs to unlock the "nightmare dungeon" called You'll repeat an adjusted version of the dungeon, called the "Nightmare Dungeon," collect bounties for activities passed from the cursed tree, fight your way through the Helltide region, collect shards for the Helltide cache (there are always shards), and you'll be ready to face the final boss at the end of the game.

"At level 100, there is a pinnacle boss encounter that we want players to challenge themselves with, and it is balanced to an extraordinary, extraordinary degree of difficulty," says Piepiora. "Players who reach level 100 will have an extremely challenging time in this boss encounter. This is a way to give players an end goal, he continued." I was able to create a very powerful character. That's my capstone, a goal I set for myself within a certain period of time after I reach level 100. That's the desire we want our players to pursue. There are cosmetic and other rewards that come from that encounter, but it's not about getting more gear at that point. It's about getting the gear to fight that particular boss."

However, Piepiora did not mention who this pinnacle boss would be. Or maybe Blizzard will take a page from Wolfenstein 3D and players will once again fight Lilith in a mech suit. Who knows.

Those who prefer their video games to be endless cis-puritanical treadmills needn't worry, of course; Diablo 4 is a live-service game with seasonal updates and battle passes, so you can play it like Diablo 3, with a new You can start up a character and repeat the journey to level 100+ all over again. Sounds like fun, don't you think?

You can try out Diablo 4 for yourself at the next playtest of the server slam, which will take place from May 12 to May 14, ahead of the final release on June 6.
