Oops, the new hero of "Overwatch 2" is actually a giant slingshot.

The new support hero in Overwatch 2 has the unique ability to pull allies toward him, but an apparent glitch causes it to do the exact opposite, making it one of the fastest moves in Blizzard's FPS.

Players are beginning to call this the Life Weaver slingshot technique, and it is surprisingly easy to pull off successfully. Overwatch content creators have a video demonstrating the absurdity of the interaction (opens in new tab) between the Life Weaver's life grip and other heroes' movement abilities.

Somehow, the momentum of the Life Weaver's pull is transmitted to the target near the end of the animation. So, for example, if Winston uses a jump pack during a life grip, he would normally jump up into the air a short distance, but gains tremendous speed and travels twice as far, effectively transforming into a gorilla-shaped rocket.

Throwing a teammate across the map like a baseball is a surefire way to surprise enemy snipers and support, but probably not as overpowered as it looks. Lifeweaver life grips have a long cooldown, and it is risky to send a teammate flying too far without support. Heroes with the ability to flee afterwards, such as Tracer or D.Va. would be the best targets. However, I don't see how a random player could easily adjust this strategy. Lifengrip's crimes require a companion.

Blizzard has not commented on whether this is intentional. I am guessing it is not intentional, but it is also not mentioned in the Known Issues post (opens in new tab) for the latest patch. The development team emphasized that they have considered and tested how disruptive this particular capability could be to the team and will keep a close eye on this issue. If you are going to take the Lifeweaver Express to the outside of the Horizon Lunar Colony, you might as well do it before Blizzard shuts it down.

The Lifeweaver is an odd addition to the Overwatch 2 hero lineup. The Life Grip and Petal Platform are flower-shaped pads that float in the air when someone steps on them, and players share their frustrating (open in new tab) and clever (open in new tab) uses. For all you Reinhardts who have dreamed of making Farah float in the air, now is your chance (opens in new tab).

Overwatch 2 Season 4 is now live, with a roadmap (opens in new tab) that includes a space opera-themed battle pass, a customizable Sigma Mythos skin, and three new limited-time modes.
