General
The Last of Us first-person mod is here, zooming in on Naughty Dog's broken world.

Like the "Hello World" (opens in new tab) of programming, it's one of the first places I stop when modding a new game, and YouTuber Voyagers Revenge (opens in new tab) recently He uploaded a preview.

He seems to have achieved this look by zooming the camera to Joel's eye level and maintaining the same animation. While this approach often lacks the mechanical finesse of a first-person perspective, I always appreciate the immersive effect. Characters hold their weapons like real people, rather than being superimposed in front of their faces like Doom's sprites. Of course, you also get the pleasure of looking down and seeing your body in the world, rather than floating six feet off the ground.

Naughty Dog's apocalyptic environments really hold up when expanded in this way, as do similar mods for Witcher (opens in new tab), Dark Souls (opens in new tab), and Elden Ring (opens in new tab), and these It's refreshing to see a new take on a familiar land. Bethesda has always held a special place in my heart since "Morrowind" for allowing players to switch freely between first and third-person perspectives. The "Fallout"-style RPG that Troika cancelled (opens in new tab) would have accomplished this with first-person and classic RPG isometric perspectives, which I have always lamented.

It is unclear when Voyagers Revenge's first-person perspective mod will be released to the public, but you can keep up with developments on their YouTube channel (opens in new tab).
