General
Rise of the Triad Ludicrous Edition Remastered Edition has an optional Doom-style HUD with a painful face.

A 4K remastered version of the cult favorite first-person shooter "Rise of the Triad" will be released this year, co-produced by Apogee Entertainment, Nightdive Studios and New Blood Interactive, They recently gave us some details on how they will update this classic (opens in new tab).

Among these details are new HUD options in both the minimalist and classic wide status bar styles. Also, while the original HUD showed a pixelated version of a character chosen from the five badasses in ROTT, the remastered version changes as you gain power-ups (you gain glowing eyes in God mode and transform into a dog in Dog mode), take damage and an animated version that turns into the appropriate Doom pain face (opens in a new tab).

Another option that will be available in Rise of the Triad: In the Ludicrous Edition, you can choose whether or not to have an alternate enemy appear. This is because not only will rejected maps, unused items, and level editor textures be restored, but also versions of NPCs that were cut from the remastered version during development and previously only appeared during the credits. These resurrected characters, including female versions of the guards, will replace the regular characters at a rate determined by the "Alternate Actor Chance" menu item.

Other things included in the Ludicrous Edition include a new episode called The Hunt Continues, an improved level editor with Steam Workshop support, a map preview, and actual functioning multiplayer. Demos containing playable levels of The Hunt Begins, Dark War, Extreme ROTT, and The Hunt Continues will be available on Steam (open in new tab) during the Steam Next Fest, which runs from June 19 to June 26. It will be available to the public.
