This 4K 48" OLED gaming monitor is a steal at $800!
[Why is the Gigabyte Aorus FO48U so cheap? But compared to OLED gaming monitors in its class, it's an absolute bargain.

Take a look at the BenQ Mobiuz EX480UZ (opens in new tab). It's almost a duplicate of this Gigabyte beast: a 48-inch LG OLED panel? Yes. 4K resolution? Yes. 120Hz refresh? Yes. 0.1ms response" Exactly.

The contrast ratio is 135,000:1 and DCI-P3 coverage is 98%. However, BenQ will also put you through the wringer for $1,500. And that's after the price drops from $1,800.

Now, you might think that Gigabyte cut corners to achieve this price. But that is not the case; like BenQ, it has DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1. In addition, the Gigabyte has a USB-C port for power delivery.

This excellent connectivity also makes this monitor a bargain compared to various OLED TVs; LG's 48-inch C2 TV costs about $1,050. We have no idea how Gigabyte could purchase panels from LG for less.

Certainly, Gigabyte is losing TV capability. But with a 4K HDMI dongle, you can add TV capability for pennies on the dollar.

Try adding USB-C and power delivery to an OLED TV. That's not possible.

That said, this seems like the monitor deal to end all monitor deals, albeit at a much higher outright cost, but there are some issues to consider: as an LG-based OLED monitor, the full-screen brightness is low: around 150 nits.

and "the brightness of the monitor is not very good.

And then there is the related issue of ergonomics and pixel density: at 48 inches, it is too large for normal desktop use. Also, if 4K is stretched to 48 inches, the pixel density becomes severely pedestrian when viewed from a distance like a normal monitor.

Some may say that you can sit farther away, but then buy a smaller display and sit in a normal position. It is obviously nonsense to buy a larger one and make it substantially smaller by putting it at a distance to fix the pixel density.

Anyway, digressions aside, this is undeniably a red-hot bargain if you're buying a display in this class.
